I discovered your bread at Costco in Bakersfield, CA. I love it. When they ran out at Costco I went to your website. Your customer service is amazing. Thank you. The price is great too averages to $5.43 a loaf. You can’t find a good loaf of bread in the store for that price.

Excellent ordering, shipping, pricing and delivery! These guys couldn’t have improved on a single aspect of the experience. (The product, of course, would be worth walking through fire!).

I own a bed and breakfast and use to do the cooking. I put out one of these loaves out every morning and people consistently devoured them. For me personally, I couldn’t resist it. It is, by far, the very best take and bake bread on the market.

This is a very nice product. One of the benefits is that I can keep it in the pantry in case I cannot get to the store.

It’s great finding a way to get real sourdough. Me and my family moved to the middle of the country from the coast. Sourdough was a huge part of our lives, always had with dinners and on holidays. Well they don’t have sourdough out here, we have searched high and low to no avail. When visiting home I bought a suite case and filled it with sourdough to bring back home, knowing there had to be an easier way I googled the site on the sourdough packaging Id always bought to find I could get it shipped! From all of us in this household and all of the people we’ve gotten to show what real sourdough taste like, thank you!

I have purchased these sourdough loaves twice for myself, and several times as gifts for family and friends. It is fantastic, far better than anything available in supermarkets. And the shelf life is phenomenal, with no refrigeration or freezing required. 16 loaves may seem like a lot, but when you can keep them on the shelf for months, it’s really not. When it comes out of the oven hot and fresh, it can’t be beat.

The Take & Bake sourdough loaf is amazing. I first bought it with an Imperfect Foods order, but they didn’t always have it. So I found Essential Baking Co.’s website and began ordering a case at a time. Freezing is not necessary, but I freeze half of my order and have the rest in the pantry ready to bake. My friends and family all know that I will always have delicious bread when they come to dinner.
The EBC customer service is great too.

You have sold me! My girlfriend recently returned from the west coast(we live in NC) and she brought a loaf of your sourdough back with her. I have to tell you I was somewhat skeptical that it would be fresh.
Today we are getting hit by snow storm Jonas, so we decided to honker down and stay inside.I made a big pot of corn chowder and Becky(my girlfriend) put your bread in the oven.
Folks i’m in heaven!!! Your bread came out perfect and combined with my chowder made the perfect lunch! In fact, probably dinner. My only regret is that I can’t find it anywhere near us and the nearest COSCO is about 100 miles away. Do you plan on expanding your distribution in the near future maybe to other national chains? If not i guess ill order online.
One last thing, exactly how long will it keep on the shelf?
Keep up the great work
Kendra (verified owner) –
Thanks so much for your reply! You can refer to the best-by-date on the back of the package. It can last up to six months or the best-by-date, whichever comes first, on your shelf.

Im so excited my costco has it!!! Can you freeze it to last even longer if you want to buy extra loaves? I hope my gluten free autism child can tolerate it! She misses bread so much and so far most gf brands have been a thumbs down for her. Ive read some gluten intolerant people can tolerate the sourdough if its fermented correctly…
Kendra (verified owner) –
Yes, you can absolutely freeze it if you want to stock up and plan to not eat it by the sell by date on the package. Before the date on the package, you can store unopened loaves in your pantry. Once it’s opened though, it’s organic bread with absolutely no preservatives of any kind, so that’s when you want to freeze it. To bake once frozen, simply put the frozen loaf directly on your oven rack at the same temperature on the package. You’ll just need to bake it longer, approximately double the amount of time if it weren’t frozen.
Our Bake-at-Home breads are made with organic, non-gmo ingredients the traditional, long fermentation process, as they mention in the article linked here.

I LOVE your bread…it is wonderful! Unfortunately, I am allergic to yeast, but noticed it is not on your ingredient list. However, you mention on the website you use a natural starter, but do not give a list of ingredients for the starter. Is the bread yeast-free or not?
Kendra (verified owner) –
Hi Tawnya,
We use organic flour and water for our starters and bake the traditional way by allowing it to go through a natural fermentation process. We do not add any commercial yeast. What is on our ingredients list is what is in our bread. Many people who can not tolerate yeast claim to do well with our bread but we recommend talking with your doctor to see what’s right for you.

We love your organic sourdough bread!! I’m allergic to MSG (monosodium glutamate) and was thrilled to find your bread at Costco. Your sourdough bread contains only 5 basic ingredients, which is all that’s needed to make bread, unlike other commercial garbage breads on the market today. I’ve been buying your bread at Costco ever since it became available. Keep up the great work! And thank you for making a wonderful-tasting, healthy bread.
Kendra (verified owner) –
Thank you Dawn! We’re so glad you found us!

Love this bread! Really sad that Costco doesn’t carry it anymore:( I was going to see is a case of 6 units just 6 loaves or am I reading that wrong?
Kendra (verified owner) –
Hi Nicci,
Your Costco may be switching out varieties to our Tuscan loaf. Keep an eye out for it. You can also order a case of 6 (6 units) from our website and have it shipped to you. Thanks for loving our bread!

This stuff is awesome. I can always have good bread when company comes to visit. Bake it and dip it into some olive oil, cracked black peper and some parmesan cheese. People fell very special.

Bought twelve of them at Costco for our three month summer boat trip. They kept perfectly well for that duration in 85 degrees temperature. We just slice what we need and run it through the toaster. No more two hours kneading and baking sessions. Seems Costco do not carry them anymore.
Kendra (verified owner) –
Hi Charles,
That’s so fun to hear that you brought them on your boat trip – sounds amazing! We love the shortcut of slicing and toasting. Once opened, I keep it in a zip-top bag on the counter, in the fridge, or freezer longer. You can try filling out a customer comment card at your local Costco or online at Costco.com or check out our store locator link to find out where else you can buy it online or in-store.

I have some questions about your sour dough bread I bought at Costco.
There isn’t a use by date: is there a way to know that? Ys I know it is good unopened for months but how could I know how many months it has been on the shelf- either in my pantry or at the store? And how many months is it actually good for?
Also, how many days or hours is the bread fermented?
Thank you, Carole
Kendra (verified owner) –
Hi Carole,
There is always a use by date at the top of the package. Our Bake-at-Home breads will stay fresh unopened for up to 5 months. Our bread is fermented for days.
Kendra (verified owner) –
Hello Carole,
You should see a best-by-date at the top right of the Costco box. You will also find best-by-dates on the top of the actual film around the bread. It will remain good unopened for up to 6 months from the day it was baked. You can store it in your pantry, or in your shelf. Our sourdough is fermented for 12 plus hours at cooler temperatures to develop complex and distinct tangy sourdough flavors. A long, cool fermentation is beneficial in helping to develop great flavor, texture, and makes it easier to digest, and allows for better nutrient absorption. https://www.webmd.com/diet/sourdough-bread-good-for-you#1

I HAVE BEEN BUYING THE 3 PACKS AT OUR CLARKSTON, WA COSTCO FOR MONTHS, AND AS OF TONIGHT, THEY SAY THEY ARE NO LONGER CARRYING IT. I PUT A COMMENT CARD/ SPECIAL REQUEST IN, BUT I REALLY NEED SOME MORE. I BUY IT BECAUSE MY HUSBAND IS ALLERGIC TO YEAST, AND THIS IS THE ONLY YEAST FREE BREAD I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND AND BUY IN A STORE… ARE YOUR PACKS ONLINE PACKS OF ONE OR THREE?
Kendra (verified owner) –
Hi Stacey,
I’m sorry to hear that our sourdough isn’t available at your local Costco. Filling out the comment card in person and you can try online as well at Costco.com.
We sell by the case in our online store. Check out our store locator link to see other online options and store locations as well. We sell smaller configurations on QVC.com of the sourdough boules and the french demi baguettes. The only Take & Bake bread of ours that organic yeast is added to our natural starter (which is just flour and water which creates naturally occurring yeast) are French Demi Baguettes and the full-size French Baguette. The French loaf we do not so that one is okay.

Came across this bread while shopping at Costco and was curious to try it out. It is SOOO good! A few short minutes in the oven and it’s like having freshly baked bread made from scratch at home! Only much easier 😉 Thank you Esstiential Baking Company for making such a delicious treat!

We bought this today at Costco…and OMG! is it fabulous!! Fans of Panera Sourdough, we wondered if it could compare…but it is better. And that’s saying ‘a LOT’! Please, keep up the GREAT work!
